Born in Boston MA, Powers Hommel recieved his BFA in glass in 2018 and currently lives in Seattle WA where he works, teaches, and creates handblown glass. Alongside his affinity for making cups, his sculptural process has two major components. The first is in the hot shop- blowing and forming the molten material. The second is in the cold shop- grinding, polishing, adding visual and physical texture while revealing layers of color beneath.
"Glass is the closest we can get to a physical entity of light itself. Glassblowing is a craft that demands a lot of patience, persistence, passion. Glass is the most graceful and alluring material I have ever used. The possibilities are endless and I have so much fun when I’m in the hotshop; I love what I do."
